Bhubaneswar, Dec 26 (NationPress) In its ongoing battle against corruption, the Odisha Vigilance executed searches on Friday at multiple sites associated with state government officials, specifically targeting a forester and a junior engineer, suspected of accumulating disproportionate assets.
The anti-corruption team discovered both movable and immovable assets valued in crores during house inspections across various properties owned by Niranjan Satapathy, who is currently serving as a Forester in Semiliguda, under the Koraput Forest Division.
On allegations of holding assets that exceed his known income sources, simultaneous searches were performed at five different locations pertaining to Satapathy in Bhubaneswar, Jagatsinghpur, and Koraput districts.
Five teams from the Odisha Vigilance, comprising six Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), seven Inspectors, and additional support staff, carried out the inspections based on search warrants sanctioned by the Vigilance Court of Special Judge in Bhubaneswar.
During these searches, officials uncovered assets totaling crores, including two luxurious multi-storeyed buildings in Bhubaneswar, one building in Semiliguda, seven high-value plots across Jagatsinghpur, Koraput, and Bhubaneswar, nearly 1 kg of gold, 250 grams of silver ornaments, bank deposits amounting to Rs 66.42 lakh, cash worth Rs 9.28 lakh, some foreign currency, and a four-wheeler.
Vigilance officials anticipate the discovery of additional assets as searches linked to Satapathy continue.
In parallel, the anti-corruption team also targeted properties belonging to Nihar Ranjan Sarkar, a Junior Engineer in Malkangiri.
Four teams from Odisha Vigilance, including four DSPs, seven Inspectors, and supporting personnel, conducted searches at four locations in Malkangiri and Nabarangpur districts, backed by search warrants from the Vigilance Court of Special Judge at Jeypore.
Officials found Sarkar and his family in possession of a multi-storeyed building valued over Rs 2 crore, eight valuable plots, bank deposits, insurance policies, share market investments totaling Rs 26.78 lakh, two four-wheelers, two two-wheelers, and household items valued at Rs 19.34 lakh.
