Bhubaneswar, Feb 16 (NationPress) The Governor of Odisha, Hari Babu Kambhampati, expressed on Sunday that the state possesses significant potential to become a frontrunner in the fisheries and animal resources sectors.

During the concluding ceremony of the State-Level Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Fair—Matsya-Prani Samavesh Odisha 2025, Kambhampati highlighted that the fisheries sector, often termed the ‘Blue Economy’, holds great promise for creating jobs, ensuring nutritional security, and generating foreign currency.

“Odisha’s extensive coastline and ample inland water resources provide a unique opportunity for the state to lead in fisheries, aquaculture, and animal resources development,” Kambhampati stated.

He called on all stakeholders to collaborate passionately to transform these sectors, ensuring economic advancement and rural upliftment. Stressing the need for diversification, Kambhampati noted that relying solely on traditional farming may not suffice for sustaining rural livelihoods.

By integrating dairy, poultry, and fisheries practices with modern breeding methods, scientific feed management, and disease prevention strategies, significant gains in productivity and profitability can be achieved.

The Governor also mentioned that enhancing value through processing and marketing could empower farmers to obtain better prices for their goods. He further pointed out that government initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and Mukhyamantri Matsyajibi Kalyan Yojana are instrumental in bolstering the fisheries sector, aiming to benefit three lakh fishers in the next five years.

Similarly, the livestock sector receives backing from the National Livestock Mission, Rashtriya Gokul Mission, and various state schemes, including Mukhyamantri Kamdhenu Yojana, Prani-Sampad-Samrudhhi Yojana, and Mukhyamantri Prani Kalyan Yojana, which are aimed at enhancing dairy development, healthcare, and productivity.

The Governor encouraged farmers, entrepreneurs, and policymakers to welcome innovation, utilize digital platforms, and adopt sustainable practices.

He emphasized the importance of AI and data analytics in disease monitoring, intelligent feeding, and productivity improvement, asserting that such advancements could revolutionize fisheries and livestock farming.

Kambhampati urged all attendees to apply the knowledge acquired at the event in their respective fields, farms, and fisheries, contributing to a self-sufficient Odisha and a robust and developed India - ‘Viksit Bharat’.
