Omar Abdullah Celebrates 42nd Annual Day at SKIMS

Srinagar, Dec 5 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, delivered a speech during the 42nd Annual Day festivities of the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) located in Soura, as reported by an official statement.

During the event, the Chief Minister electronically inaugurated and laid foundation stones for multiple projects, showcasing the government's dedication to improving healthcare infrastructure.

He emphasized the crucial role that SKIMS has played in advancing the healthcare framework of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Chief Minister commended the Institute for its significant contributions and its capacity to respond during emergencies. He also noted that SKIMS offers technologically advanced and evidence-based medical services to the public.

He congratulated the administration, faculty, and staff of SKIMS for their outstanding efforts, especially during the arduous times of the COVID-19 pandemic and other crises.

Reflecting on the vision of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, he mentioned that SKIMS was established to provide advanced healthcare options within J&K, minimizing the necessity for patients to travel outside the region for treatment.

Furthermore, he stressed the significance of medical tourism, expressing aspirations for infrastructure improvements around SKIMS to actualize this vision.

The Chief Minister urged for a reduction in referrals to SKIMS by enhancing the capabilities of sub-district and district hospitals, thereby alleviating pressure on the Institute.

He voiced concerns about administrative interference affecting the operations of SKIMS and committed to restoring its autonomy as a priority.

To fortify the Institute further, the Chief Minister assured comprehensive government support to guarantee that patients receive top-quality healthcare. During the occasion, he electronically inaugurated various facilities, including the Attendants Inn with restroom facilities at the emergency block, the Attendants Inn at the Maternity Hospital, the 4DCT Simulator at Radiation Oncology, and the Daycare Ward.

Additionally, he laid electronic foundation stones for the Sports Ground, Transport Yard, and the construction of additional space for attendants.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated the Emergency Operation Theatre Block and commissioned the SKIMS Medical University Complex, which further improves emergency and educational facilities.

Earlier, he reviewed an exhibition organized by SKIMS that highlighted innovative contributions and success stories from various departments within the Institute.

Moreover, he released the Annual Report of SKIMS, which outlined the Institute’s noteworthy achievements and activities.
