Srinagar, Jan 30 (NationPress) J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah terminated his social media advisor after a misleading post on X concerning the honorarium for special police officers (SPOs).
The ruling National Conference (NC) stated that the social media advisor to the party’s Vice President Omar Abdullah was dismissed following a misleading post on X that took credit for the increase in the honorarium of SPOs in J&K.
“A recent post regarding the SPOs' honorarium was disseminated from various accounts linked to the party and the Chief Minister. This post should not have been published and was done without any verification or fact-checking,” NC remarked.
It emphasized that while the party has been persistently advocating for a rise in the honorarium and is making every effort to accomplish this, it has not yet materialized.
“The individual responsible has faced consequences and has lost his position as social media advisor to the vice president,” the NC added.
Previously, a post from the party's official handle had asserted that the Omar Abdullah government had raised the honorarium for the SPOs. However, that post was subsequently removed.
The NC's decision followed criticism from various quarters, including Peoples Conference (PC), president and MLA Sajad Gani Lone.
“Is it accurate? The salaries of SPOs are financed by the MHA through SRE (Security Related Expenditure). Still, if the state government has devised a way to augment their salaries—some clarification on that. Essentially, it is MHA's domain,” Sajad posted on X.
During its last assembly, the J&K cabinet had recommended an increase in the monthly honorarium for the SPOs.
According to the cabinet's recommendation, newly recruited SPOs would receive Rs 12,000 per month, those with five years of service Rs 18,000; SPOs with ten years of service Rs 24,000; and those with fifteen years of service Rs 30,000.
The execution of the cabinet's recommendation is under the jurisdiction of the L-G as per the J&K Reorganisation Act 2019.
