OP Rajbhar Critiques Rahul Gandhi’s Visit to Hathras Family as 'Political Stunt'

Lucknow, Dec 12 (NationPress) The President of the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), OP Rajbhar, on Thursday took aim at the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, for his visit to the family of the Hathras 2020 gangrape victim, denouncing it as a 'political stunt.'
Rajbhar’s comments were made as the Congress MP visited Boolgarhi village in Uttar Pradesh (UP) to meet the family of the young woman who was assaulted by four upper caste men and who tragically passed away on September 29, 2020, after succumbing to her injuries at a hospital in Delhi.
In an interview with IANS, Rajbhar accused the Congress party of being opportunistic.
"It’s nothing more than a political stunt. When the Congress was in power, entire slums were set ablaze, and violence and curfews were commonplace. Now that they’re out of power, they are yearning for a comeback. The populace has turned their backs on them, just as they did previously,” he asserted.
Rajbhar acknowledged that the LoP had the right to visit the family, but noted that the UP government required such visits to be sanctioned due to security concerns.
"The government is taking steps to ensure that proper arrangements are made for his safety," he stated.
The SBSP leader also commented on the ongoing discord between the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress, pointing out that the divide between the two parties is ideological.
“Rahul Gandhi wishes to pursue his own political agenda, whereas the SP expects him to operate within their framework. This is leading to a clash of ideologies,” Rajbhar noted.
Rajbhar responded to recent remarks from Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, who warned of a potential Syria-like coup in India to protect democracy and instigate a regime change.
"India is a democracy. The people have elected the NDA government for a third consecutive term. The BJP’s success in states like Haryana and Maharashtra speaks volumes. If conditions were truly as dire as some suggest, how does the BJP continue to win? Leaders often make inflammatory remarks and later claim they were misinterpreted," he added.
Rajbhar also commented on the recent decision by the Assam government requiring individuals to apply for inclusion in the National Register of Citizens (NRC) to qualify for an Aadhaar card.
He remarked, "This is the decision of the Assam government. They are entitled to act as they see fit for their state."
This latest regulation, which was approved by the Assam Cabinet on Wednesday, mandates that those who have not applied for the NRC will have their Aadhaar card applications denied, as the state aims to ensure that only legally recognized citizens are issued the identity document.
