Over 550,000 Candidates Vie for 4,002 Constable Positions in Jammu & Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 1 (NationPress) In a historic moment for the J&K Police recruitment, over 5.59 lakh candidates are set to participate in the examination commencing on Sunday for 4,002 constable vacancies in the union territory.
The recruitment journey will kick off with written examinations scheduled for December 1, 8, and 22 across 856 centers spanning 20 districts in Jammu and Kashmir.
To facilitate a selection process that is both transparent and fair, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha convened a high-level meeting on Saturday aimed at ensuring a seamless recruitment process overseen by the Services Selection Recruitment Board (SSRB).
Indu Kanwal Chib, the chairperson of SSRB, noted that more than 5.59 lakh candidates are expected to participate in the written examination for the 4,002 posts available.
On December 1, 2,62,863 candidates will undertake the test for constable roles in the Executive/ Armed/ SDRF categories, with the highest concentration of candidates (54,296) hailing from Jammu district.
On December 8, 1,67,609 individuals will sit for the examination for constable positions in Telecommunications, while 1,28,663 candidates will take the test for constable roles in Photography on December 22.
Male and female officers have been appointed as frisking supervisors at the examination centers, and the entire examination process will be captured on video.
Atal Dulloo, the Chief Secretary of J&K, has mandated the deployment of sufficient staff, including observers and security personnel, at each examination center to ensure the exams run smoothly and securely.
Additionally, SSRB will initiate the recruitment process for 669 sub-inspector roles within the police department starting on December 3. Interested candidates can submit applications for these positions until January 2, 2025.
It is noteworthy that the previous recruitment attempt for the sub-inspector positions faced significant scrutiny after it was revealed that the selection process had been compromised due to paper leaks in 2022.
A CBI investigation uncovered that test papers were sold for between Rs 20 to 30 lakhs by 24 individuals, including a BSF officer.
The entire selection procedure was annulled, and legal charges were filed against the accused in court. Consequently, the J&K government was compelled to completely restructure the SSRB by replacing all board members and staff associated with the sub-inspector recruitment process in 2022.
