Agartala, Dec 23 (NationPress) More than 93% of new leaders were elected as Presidents of the ruling BJP's 'Mandal' committees in Tripura, displacing veteran members, a party official revealed on Monday.

The Returning Officer (RO) for the BJP Mandal Presidents election, Samarendra Chandra Deb, stated that among the 60 'Mandal' Presidents, 56 are newcomers, with only four being seasoned leaders.

Within the BJP's organizational framework in Tripura, the head of each Assembly constituency is referred to as the 'Mandal' President. There are a total of 60 Assembly constituencies in Tripura.

Of the elected 'Mandal' Presidents, two are women: Swapna Das from Pratapgarh and Sampa Das from Kamalpur, Deb informed the media.

He mentioned that by the first week of January 2025, elections for district-level committee Presidents will proceed, followed by the election of the state-level President. The BJP operates within 10 organizational districts across Tripura.

The Returning Officer clarified that candidates for the 'Mandal' President role must be a maximum of 45 years old, and individuals who have completed two terms as 'Mandal' Presidents are ineligible to participate in this election.

Deb emphasized that the party has made efforts to ensure representation from all community segments in the elections for 'Mandal' Presidents.

Of the 60 'Mandal' Presidents, 23% are from tribal backgrounds, 18% belong to Scheduled Castes, and 36% are from the general category, he added.

Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Saha congratulated all 60 newly-elected 'Mandal' Presidents in a Facebook post.

“Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the new Mandal Presidents of Tripura Pradesh of Bharatiya Janata Party. I have faith that the organization of Bharatiya Janata Party will grow stronger under your capable leadership,” CM Saha stated.
