CPI(M) Focuses on Youthful Leadership in Tripura, Electing 87% New Members in Divisional Committees

Agartala, Dec 24 (NationPress) Approximately 87% of fresh individuals have been chosen as secretaries within the CPI(M)’s Divisional Committees in Tripura, marking a departure from past leadership, according to a party official here on Tuesday.

The official mentioned that in preparation for the 24th congress of the CPI(M), it is necessary to finalize all state committees across the nation, and before the state conference, the formation of branch, local, divisional, and district committees must be completed.

The CPI(M)’s 24th congress is scheduled to take place from April 2 to 6, 2025 in Madurai.

In Tripura, elections for branch, local, and divisional committees have already been conducted, and district-level conferences are currently underway. Out of the eight district committees, five have been finalized, and four newly appointed district secretaries are newcomers.

The CPI(M) boasts over 4,000 branch committees, more than 300 local committees, 23 divisional, and eight district committees in Tripura.

District-level committees in Sepahijala, North Tripura, and Unakoti districts are expected to be completed by December 31, as stated by the party official, adding that a majority of the newly elected secretaries of branch and local committees are fresh faces.

“Among the 23 divisional committees, 20 newly elected divisional secretaries are new members. The party has opted to promote young leaders to guide the organization at various levels,” he remarked.

According to the CPI(M) representative, the three-day 24th state conference will occur from January 29 to 31 in Agartala.

Prominent party politburo figures such as Prakash Karat, Brinda Karat, and Manik Sarkar (former Chief Minister of Tripura) alongside other senior leaders will address a public rally on January 29.

This upcoming conference is the second of its kind in Tripura since the BJP assumed power in 2018. The party official indicated that during the state conference, the Left party intends to establish a roadmap for its future strategies and initiatives to spotlight the “misgovernance” of the ruling BJP and various fundamental issues affecting the populace.

The CPI(M)-led Left Front held power in Tripura for 35 years from 1978 to 1988 and from 1993 to 2018.

However, the Left parties faced significant defeats against the BJP-Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) coalition in the 2018 and 2023 Assembly elections.
