New Delhi, Jan 23 (NationPress) Asaduddin Owaisi, the chief of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), criticized former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) following a rally in Okhla. While garnering support for AIMIM candidate Shifa Ur Rahman, Owaisi claimed that the Kejriwal-led administration has failed to provide any development in the region over the last decade.

In a statement to IANS, Owaisi remarked, "For 10 years, Kejriwal's MLA hasn't accomplished anything here, and now the public is frustrated. We’re witnessing a significant change this time as the residents of Okhla are fed up with the neglect. We will secure victory in this area."

He also brought attention to the situation of Shifa Ur Rahman and Tahir Hussain, both of whom are currently imprisoned due to their alleged roles in the 2020 Delhi riots.

Owaisi condemned the 'oppression' faced by these two leaders, asserting that the rally and the forthcoming votes would represent a form of resistance against the government that, in his view, unjustly incarcerated them.

"The vote here will communicate a message to those who wrongfully imprisoned Shifa and Tahir. The public will respond to those who plotted to keep them in jail," Owaisi stated.

The controversy surrounding Shifa Ur Rahman and Tahir Hussain arises from their alleged involvement in the Delhi riots, with both facing numerous charges.

The AIMIM has nominated them as candidates for the upcoming February 5 Delhi Assembly elections.

The families of the jailed candidates have taken to campaigning on their behalf, making heartfelt appeals for votes.

Owaisi also responded to Kejriwal's previous comments aimed at politicians with corruption allegations, questioning his own integrity.

"What about the leaders who were imprisoned due to their participation in the liquor scam?" Owaisi remarked.

Additionally, Owaisi commented on Uttar Pradesh's Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's rally in Delhi.

"What are we to do? The people of Okhla and Mustafabad will ensure our success through their votes," he concluded.

Owaisi's statements arrive ahead of a critical electoral contest in Delhi, where the stakes are considerable.

With various parties striving for the attention of women voters and issues such as justice, governance, and corruption taking center stage, Owaisi is rallying his supporters for what could be a pivotal electoral confrontation.

The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, with vote counting set for February 8.
