Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, April 6 (NationPress) On Monday, former Union Law Minister and Lok Sabha MP Ravi Shankar Prasad announced that the "double-engine government" is earnestly contemplating the initiation of international flight operations from Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport in Patna to significant locations such as Dubai, Bangkok, and Kathmandu.
During a constructive dialogue with Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Prasad shared insights about this progressive initiative.
He elaborated, "The State Government is seriously evaluating the possibility of providing financial incentives or rebates to airlines to foster direct international flights from Patna. This initiative will alleviate the necessity for passengers to travel to Delhi or Kolkata for international flights," he emphasized.
This declaration followed a pivotal meeting of the Airport Advisory Committee held at Patna airport, overseen by Ravi Shankar Prasad.
The meeting served as the inaugural review after the unveiling of the airport's new terminal building.
Attendees included Digha MLA Sanjeev Chaurasia, Airport Director Chandra Pratap Dwivedi, and Patna District Magistrate Tyagarajan SM, accompanied by other senior officials.
Discussions centered around managing the increasing passenger flow and enhancing the infrastructure accordingly.
Highlighting the surging demand, Prasad noted that nearly 40 lakh passengers currently utilize Patna Airport each year, a figure projected to escalate to 1 crore in the near future.
He stressed that runway expansion is crucial to accommodate this anticipated surge. Both the central and state governments, he mentioned, are collaborating on the project, and a specialized committee will soon assess the designated land to make a definitive decision.
A noteworthy resolution during the meeting was to showcase Bihar's local products within the airport's premises.
Prasad urged officials to set up dedicated stalls for items like Madhubani paintings, handicrafts, and other regional treasures.
This initiative aims to uplift local artisans by offering them greater visibility and market opportunities.
He also commended the teamwork among the district administration, the Patna Municipal Corporation, and the airport authorities, underscoring that the expansion initiatives must be finalized within a stipulated timeframe to mitigate congestion and enhance the passenger experience.
Reaffirming the Centre's dedication, Prasad stated that measures are being taken to develop Patna Airport in accordance with international standards, ensuring improved connectivity and world-class amenities for travelers.
