Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mandla (Madhya Pradesh), March 26 (NationPress) The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) initiative, launched by the Central government to offer financial assistance to small and marginal farmers, has instilled dignity and respect in the farming community. It has also provided essential support to help them navigate financial hardships during challenging times.
In the Mandla district of Madhya Pradesh, numerous farmers enrolled in the scheme recounted their struggles and the significant impact of this transformative program in helping them overcome obstacles.
Many farmers in the region are leveraging the funds from PM-KISAN to bolster their agricultural practices and enhance their livelihoods.
Local farmer Mannu Thakur, who cultivates wheat, paddy, and maize on his 2.5 acres, expressed how the Rs 2,000 instalment under PM-KISAN has been a lifeline during tough times. He stated, "When we do not receive good returns on our crops, the PM-KISAN support provides crucial relief."
Another farmer, Anurag Thakur, who has not yet registered for PM-KISAN, shared the difficulties faced by villagers in obtaining minimum support prices for their crops, emphasizing the necessity of government assistance to navigate these challenges. He remains hopeful of becoming a PM-KISAN beneficiary soon.
The PM-KISAN scheme offers eligible farmers financial aid in three annual instalments, with each instalment providing Rs 2,000 directly deposited into their bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). In total, farmers receive Rs 6,000 annually under this initiative.
Narayan Prasad Dhurve, a senior official in the Agriculture Department, noted the beneficial impact of other central welfare programs like the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY) for farmers. He explained the process of becoming a beneficiary, stating, "Farmers can apply through the 'e-Krishi Anudan' portal for PMKSY, followed by a physical verification of the agricultural machinery provided by dealers. Field officers conduct site inspections personally."
To promote transparency, a geo-tagging system has been implemented, allowing for location-based verification.
