Imphal, Aug 2 (NationPress) In the latest disbursement under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, more than Rs 18.09 crore has been allocated to 74,963 beneficiaries in Manipur, bolstering the support extended to the state’s agricultural sector, officials reported on Saturday.
A representative from the Raj Bhavan indicated that Manipur's Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla participated virtually in a national event to officially announce the 20th payment of the PM-KISAN scheme. This instalment was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
According to a statement from the Raj Bhavan, the Agriculture Department of Manipur, in conjunction with the Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in each district, organized PM-KISAN Diwas celebrations across the state. The ICAR-KVK Imphal West and the ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region, Manipur centre, also hosted special events to commemorate this achievement.
The programme featured interactions between farmers and scientists aimed at sharing knowledge and enhancing skills, along with the distribution of agricultural inputs to beneficiaries, showcasing ongoing efforts to aid farming communities at the grassroots level.
The statement revealed that a total of Rs 20,500 crore is being directly transferred to the bank accounts of over 9.70 crore farmers through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, ensuring transparency and eliminating the involvement of middlemen.
Initiated in February 2019, the PM-KISAN scheme is a centrally funded programme designed to meet the financial needs of land-holding farmers. Under this initiative, farmers receive Rs 6,000 annually, disbursed in three equal payments directly into their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts via the DBT system.
Since its launch in 2019, the scheme has disbursed Rs 3.69 lakh crore to farmers through 19 payments. The 20th instalment provides an additional uplift to the incomes of millions of small and marginal farmers, underscoring the government's commitment to farmer welfare, rural development, and the advancement of the agricultural sector.
Attendees at the event in Imphal included Manipur’s Principal Secretary (Agriculture) Arun Kumar Sinha, Secretary to the Governor Sumant Singh, and other officials.
