New Delhi, Feb 20 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the 98th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan on Friday, February 21, as confirmed by an official on Thursday. Recently, Marathi has been awarded the status of a Classical Language by the Central government.

For the first time in 71 years, this gathering will take place in the national capital, emphasizing the enduring significance of Marathi literature and its contribution to modern conversations, as stated in an official release.

In a celebration of India's rich culture, Prime Minister Modi will kick off the Sammelan at approximately 4:30 p.m. on February 21, at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, where he will also address the attendees, according to the Prime Minister's Office.

This Sammelan will span three days, from February 21 to 23.

During the event, a variety of panel discussions, book exhibitions, cultural performances, and engaging sessions with renowned literary personalities will take place.

It aims to honor the everlasting relevance of Marathi literature while delving into topics such as language preservation, translation, and the effects of digitalization on literary works.

In a symbolic gesture, a literary train journey from Pune to Delhi will carry 1,200 participants, representing the unifying essence of literature.

The Sammelan is expected to showcase over 2,600 poetry submissions, 50 book launches, and 100 bookstalls, among various other activities.

According to the statement, esteemed scholars, authors, poets, and literature lovers from across the country will be in attendance.

In October last year, Marathi was among several languages that received the Classical Language designation from the Central government.

Alongside Marathi, Pali, Prakrit, Assamese, and Bengali were also recognized as Classical Languages.
