PM Modi to Observe Application of Criminal Laws in Chandigarh Today

Chandigarh, Dec 3 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alongside Union Home Minister Amit Shah, will observe the real-world application of three significant laws, illustrating how they are transforming the landscape of criminal justice.
A live demonstration is set to highlight how newly launched digital tools such as e-Sakshya, Nyay Setu, Nyay Shruti, and e-Summons have optimized law enforcement, judicial processes, and evidence management through the simulation of a crime scene investigation.
These applications were developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) in partnership with the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) under the direction of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
At 12 noon, Prime Minister Modi will formally launch the successful implementation of three groundbreaking criminal laws -- Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam -- during a program titled, "Secure Society, Developed India -- From Punishment to Justice" at Punjab Engineering College (PEC) located in Sector-12.
The creation of these laws was motivated by the Prime Minister's vision to abolish colonial-era legislation that had persisted after independence and to reform the judicial system by prioritizing justice over punishment.
The new criminal laws, which took effect across the nation on July 1, aim to enhance the legal framework to be more transparent, efficient, and responsive to the demands of modern society.
These significant reforms represent a historic transformation of the criminal justice system, introducing new frameworks to address contemporary issues such as cybercrime and organized crime, while ensuring justice for victims of various offenses.
Prior to PM Modi's visit, extensive security arrangements have been put in place.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive at the airport around 11:25 a.m. and is expected to travel by helicopter to the Rajindra Park helipad in Sector-1, close to the PEC.
Union Home Minister Shah arrived in the city on Monday evening.
In addition to the Union Home Minister, Punjab Governor-cum-Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria and senior officials from the administration, along with newly appointed Indian Police Service (IPS) officers from across the nation, will observe a presentation conducted by the Chandigarh Police regarding the operation of the new criminal law applications.
