New Delhi, March 18 (NationPress) As NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore embark on their journey back to Earth after being 'stranded' at the International Space Station (ISS) for nearly nine months, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has penned a heartfelt letter to one of India's most distinguished daughters, expressing hopes for her safe return.
The letter, dated March 1, 2025, was shared by Minister in PMO Dr. Jitendra Singh on his social media platform.
“As the entire world holds its breath, eagerly awaiting the safe return of Sunita Williams, this is how PM Modi conveyed his concern for this daughter of India,” he noted while posting the Prime Minister’s message to Sunita Williams.
In his touching letter, PM Modi states, “Although you are thousands of miles away, you remain close to our hearts. The people of India are praying for your well-being and success in your mission.”
He further mentions that during his past visits to the United States and discussions with successive US Presidents, he inquired about her health.
PM Modi reminisced about meeting the prominent astronaut during his previous visit to the US in 2016 and extended an invitation for her to visit India upon her return from space.
“We are eager to see you in India after your return. It would be an honor for India to host one of its most remarkable daughters,” he expressed.
He added, “1.4 billion Indians take immense pride in your accomplishments. Recent events have once again highlighted your inspirational strength and determination.”
Dr. Jitendra Singh also shared that PM Modi recently met former NASA astronaut Mike Massimino and requested that this letter, on behalf of him and the people of India, reach her.
“Sunita conveyed her gratitude to PM Modi and India for this kind gesture,” he noted.
