Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 6 (NationPress) Enthusiastic preparations are underway in Malaysia to receive Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his upcoming two-day official visit from February 7 to 8. The anticipation among the Indian diaspora is palpable as this visit, invited by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, aims to further enhance India–Malaysia relations across various sectors including trade, finance, security, and cultural collaboration.
Ramesh Kodammal, the Chairman of the ASEAN India Economic Council (AIEC), expressed that both the Malaysian government and its citizens are eagerly awaiting the Prime Minister's arrival. He remarked, "This long-anticipated visit has many people excited to meet, see, and hear him. This is a significant opportunity to elevate Malaysia–India relations to new heights," further noting that bilateral trade is projected to reach approximately $20 billion in 2023–24 and is expected to expand alongside strengthening India–ASEAN and India–Malaysia business connections.
As PM Modi’s visit approaches, an Indian diaspora member shared, "We are incredibly excited to see PM Modi tomorrow. I attended his last visit a decade ago, and his return to Malaysia, home to the second-largest Indian diaspora, signifies his commitment to deepening ties between India and Malaysia both culturally and bilaterally."
Another individual added, "We are elated to host PM Modi alongside our Prime Minister and have this wonderful platform to unite. On behalf of the Malaysia Bharatanatyam Dance Association, we are thrilled to present a performance that showcases various dance styles within a single choreography. "
Cultural groups are organizing a spectacular reception with around 800 dancers and performers rehearsing a mix of classical and fusion acts, featuring styles such as Kathak, Bharatanatyam, and ballet. Artists have dedicated weeks to perfecting these unique performances for the occasion.
One artist mentioned, "We spent several weeks preparing for this performance, and we hope PM Modi enjoys it. Our fusion piece combines elements of Kathak and ballet into a two-minute celebration of both dance forms. We are thrilled and eagerly anticipate his presence in Malaysia."
A choreographer added, "Preparations have been ongoing for quite some time. My four students are performing a fusion of Kathak and ballet, which posed a challenge due to their busy schedules at Garden International School. Nevertheless, we made the most of our practice time."
During this visit, PM Modi will engage in bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, with key topics expected to include trade, finance, and the enhancement of their strategic partnership.
