Mohla, Oct 15 (NationPress) The landscape of Mohla, Manpur, and Ambagarh Chowki districts in Chhattisgarh, which were previously regarded as Naxal strongholds, is undergoing a remarkable transformation. This positive shift is primarily due to the effective implementation of government schemes that now reach every household.
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), an important government initiative aimed at assisting the underprivileged, is making the aspiration of homeownership a reality. Numerous families in the Naxal-affected regions of Mohla, Manpur, and Ambagarh Chowki have successfully acquired their dream homes through this program.
This initiative has become a cornerstone for development. The Central Government's scheme is akin to a blessing for the impoverished, and many beneficiaries express their gratitude towards the administration.
Babita, a beneficiary, shared with IANS, “We used to reside in a mud house, where water leaks posed significant challenges during the monsoon. The issues we faced, such as leaking roofs and damp walls, were daunting. However, thanks to the PMAY scheme, we received essential support. Now, we enjoy living in a solid, permanent home. Thank you, government!”
Another beneficiary, Kamal Singh Yadav, remarked, “We also lived in a mud house that leaked during the rainy season. The government provided us with financial assistance to construct a pucca house. We built it, and now we live in comfort, free from such issues.”
Initiated on April 1, 2016, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) stands as the flagship mission of the Centre under the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). PMAY-G aims to ensure that every houseless household and those living in kutcha or dilapidated homes receive a pucca house equipped with basic amenities.
This scheme addresses the pressing shortage of rural housing and plays a pivotal role in fulfilling the objective of “Housing for All.”
Beneficiaries are selected based on data from the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) and validated by Gram Sabhas.
The Union Cabinet has approved the continuation of PMAY-G for the period 2024–25 to 2028–29, targeting the construction of an additional 2 crore houses.
The ministry has earmarked 84,37,139 houses for the year 2024–25 across 18 states, including Chhattisgarh. Among these, a target of 46,56,765 houses is designated for completion between December 2024 and January 2025 across nine states. As of February 2, 2025, 39,82,764 houses have already received approval.
