Hubballi (Karnataka), April 4 (NationPress) The Karnataka Police are adopting a careful approach in the investigation of an alleged "love jihad" case from Hubballi, as serious and sensitive claims have surfaced from both parties involved. Three separate cases have been logged by the families related to the incident.
During a press briefing on Saturday, Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar of Hubballi-Dharwad stated that the young woman has accused the accused male of rape.
"We have registered three cases connected to this incident. Our team is looking into every aspect and thoroughly investigating all three cases," he mentioned.
"The investigation will uncover who filmed the video. We are interrogating the relevant individuals in this matter," Commissioner Shashikumar noted.
He further explained that the complaint filed by the young woman and her mother includes allegations of sexual assault, video recording of the act, and coercion.
According to him, it is also alleged that the sister of the accused, Sameer, along with others, facilitated the assault. The police are currently looking into these claims as well.
"We are scrutinizing all allegations and assure that there is no reason to be afraid. Legal action will be taken based on the findings. Once the facts are verified, appropriate actions regarding the video recording and other allegations will commence," he added.
The accused, Sameer Mulla, has asserted that the young woman recorded the private video on her own mobile device.
Conversely, the woman claims she met Sameer through his sister, who invited her to a gym and later took her to her home, where she was allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted.
She also alleges that Sameer recorded a video and subsequently blackmailed her.
Furthermore, she has accused the young man of causing her pregnancy and coercing her into recording a video of herself taking pills and sending it to him.
The complaints and associated videos have gone viral on social media, leading to heightened tensions in the city.
While the young woman has made serious allegations of sexual assault and coercion, Sameer’s family has denied all accusations.
On Friday, tensions flared in Hubballi following reports of "love jihad" involving a Muslim young man and a Hindu girl, resulting in clashes between members of Hindu groups and the family of the accused.
The situation escalated as Hindu activists protested outside the Old Hubballi police station, with hundreds demanding strict action against the accused.
As per police reports, the accused youth, Sameer, a gym trainer from Vijayanagar, was seen with the girl after they met at the gym.
Members of Hindu organizations intervened, claiming the relationship exemplified "love jihad". They took Sameer into their custody and handed him over to the authorities at Old Hubballi police station.
The situation took a further turn when Sameer's family reportedly stormed the girl's house, accusing her family of kidnapping him and creating chaos.
They are also alleged to have attempted an assault during this confrontation.
According to the police, the sequence of events commenced when the girl's family visited Sameer's home to question him about his relationship with their daughter. He was later taken by members of Hindu organizations and handed to the police.
In retaliation, Sameer's family allegedly invaded the girl's residence, leading to further confrontations between both parties.
In the aftermath, several individuals from both families were injured and required medical attention at KIMS Hospital in Hubballi.
