Police Officer Loses Life as Patrol Car Capsizes in Pond in Darbhanga, Bihar

Patna, Dec 17 (NationPress) A police officer tragically lost his life while two colleagues suffered serious injuries when a Dial 112 police patrol vehicle plunged into a pond in the Simri Bazar police station area of Bihar's Darbhanga district early Tuesday morning.
The mishap took place at 12:30 a.m. when the police vehicle was returning from Sadhwara to Simri Bazar after completing its patrol. The vehicle overturned into a pond while attempting to avoid a dog on the roadway.
The deceased officer, identified as Shekhar Paswan (59), was pronounced dead at the Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). The driver, GK Jha, along with constable Archana Kumari, is currently receiving medical attention.
Paswan hailed from Raghepura village within the Bahadurpur police station area.
Senior police officials arrived at the accident location to investigate the events surrounding this tragic incident.
Jha reported that he lost control of the vehicle while trying to avoid hitting a dog.
While making an effort to save the dog, the patrol vehicle flipped over into the nearby pond.
"Following the accident, we managed to rescue Archana Kumari and Shekhar Paswan," Jha stated.
Paswan was quickly transported to the hospital, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
High-ranking officers, including the City SP, rushed to both DMCH and the accident scene for further investigation.
Manish Kumar, the in-charge of Simri Police Station, confirmed that the accident occurred in an attempt to avoid the dog and attributed the confusion at the scene to thick fog and limited visibility at night.
"Jha and Archana Kumari are presently receiving treatment at DMCH. We have sent Paswan's remains for a post-mortem examination. The family of the deceased has been notified about this unfortunate incident," Kumar added.
