Police Retrieve Firearms Linked to the Assassination of TMC Councilor in Malda, West Bengal

Kolkata, Jan 10 (NationPress) The West Bengal police investigating the assassination of Trinamool Congress councilor Dulal Sarkar, commonly referred to as Babla, have successfully recovered the weapons employed in the crime. Sarkar, who served as the representative for Ward 22 of the English Bazar Municipality in Malda district, was fatally shot on January 2.
Sources from the state police disclosed that a 9 mm pistol along with two homemade single-shot pistols were retrieved on Friday afternoon.
“Additionally, seven live cartridges and the garments worn by the assassins during the act were also confiscated. The recovery of these pieces of evidence is vital for constructing a robust case,” stated a senior police official.
The police in Malda district have been facing substantial pressure to resolve the case following Sarkar's murder.
Immediately after the incident, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticized the district police, particularly District Superintendent Pradeep Kumar Yadav, for their inability to avert the attack. "Babla had a security detail previously, which was subsequently withdrawn. There are evident oversights from the district police. Babla was by my side from the beginning," Mamata Banerjee remarked on the day of the murder.
Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari accused that Sarkar’s security was revoked following a phone call from a senior state cabinet member to the district superintendent.
Sarkar, a long-time confidant of the Chief Minister, was shot on January 2 while at a crowded intersection in English Bazar. Three assailants donned in helmets arrived on a motorcycle, with one of them opening fire. Although the first two shots missed, the third hit Sarkar in the head. He was swiftly transported to Malda Medical College and Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The attackers had been trailing him for several days.
Seven individuals, including Narendra Nath Tiwari, the Malda town president of the Trinamool Congress and the district president of the party’s Hindi cell, have been apprehended in connection with the murder.
