Imphal/Guwahati, July 29 (NationPress) Following Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has vehemently criticized Gaurav Gogoi, the Congress MP, for his apparent ignorance regarding modern warfare.
In a post on his X account, Singh, a prominent BJP leader and MLA, remarked, "The lack of understanding displayed by Opposition leader Shri Gaurav Gogoi concerning modern warfare is troubling. His inquiry into why our fighter jets did not engage at close range overlooks the strategic excellence of long-range precision strikes that safeguarded our soldiers and guaranteed the success of the mission."
"Mocking our courageous defenders, who tirelessly serve on the frontline, is not only inappropriate for a political leader but also a disservice to the nation they protect. It is truly embarrassing to acknowledge that he hails from the Northeast," Singh continued.
During a special discussion on Operation Sindoor on Monday, Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, accused the government of withholding crucial information regarding the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the death of 26 civilians, primarily tourists.
He raised concerns over how five heavily-armed terrorists managed to infiltrate and execute the attacks despite India's extensive surveillance and intelligence systems.
A three-term MP from Assam, Gogoi, who also serves as the President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, stated, "The government must be transparent. The people of India deserve to uncover the truth surrounding Operation Sindoor."
Chief Minister Sarma had previously asserted in his post on X, "The speech delivered by our MP from Jorhat in Parliament yesterday unequivocally demonstrated that he acts on behalf of Pakistan. His clandestine trip and close connections with the Pakistani establishment are telling. With his wife and both children holding foreign citizenship, he could leave India anytime. He is a disgrace to Assam and a betrayal of our pride as Indians."
CM Sarma has consistently targeted Gogoi in recent months, alleging that his wife, Elizabeth Colburn, has ties to Pakistan’s premier intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
However, the Congress MP has repeatedly refuted these claims.
The remarks from both the Assam Chief Minister and former Manipur Chief Minister came just a day after Gogoi criticized Defence Minister Rajnath Singh during a Parliament debate on 'Operation Sindoor', for failing to address significant issues surrounding the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
Gogoi also expressed concerns over internal security lapses and questioned the government’s silence regarding the origins of the attack.
