Prashant Kishor criticizes Bihar CM for neglecting student grievances

New Delhi, Jan 3 (NationPress) Jan Suraaj Party Chief Prashant Kishor on Friday launched a sharp critique of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, accusing him of being indifferent to the students' concerns over the ongoing BPSC protests. Kishor pointed out that the state's leader, representing a population of 13 crore, is unwilling to meet with his own youth.

Speaking to IANS from his hunger strike at Gandhi Maidan, Kishor emphasized, "The solution lies in the government engaging in dialogue with the students. They have explicitly stated that if the Chief Minister meets with them and guarantees that there will be no re-examinations, they will call off their protests unconditionally. Yet, the state's leader continues to ignore his own children. In a democracy, what avenues remain for these students?"

Kishor, along with hundreds of aspirants from the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC), has been protesting against alleged irregularities associated with the 70th Combined Preliminary Examination. This hunger strike, conducted in frigid conditions, aims to compel the government to ensure justice and transparency in the examination process.

The uproar began on December 13 when candidates at the Bapu Examination Centre boycotted the test due to significant delays in receiving question papers. Videos showcasing inadequate security and the use of mobile phones during the exam further fueled public outrage.

Although the BPSC subsequently cancelled the examination at the Bapu centre and rescheduled it for December 4, students have demanded the cancellation of tests across all centres, citing extensive irregularities.

Tensions escalated on December 29 when protesters attempting to reach the Chief Minister's residence faced water cannons and baton charges, resulting in multiple injuries. Despite these confrontations, the aspirants remain resolute, calling for a comprehensive investigation into the examination process and advocating for a fair re-examination.

Earlier, on December 30, a group of students met with Bihar Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena, who assured them that their grievances were being taken into account.

Nevertheless, the government's silence regarding the situation ahead of the January 4 re-examination has left students feeling discontented.
