New Delhi, Dec 14 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu called for active public involvement in energy conservation, commending the government's green initiatives and noting that India has met its clean energy targets ahead of schedule. At an event celebrating National Energy Conservation Day, she urged citizens to adopt energy-saving practices to secure a safe, clean, and prosperous world for future generations.
She stressed the importance of involving children and youth in efforts towards a sustainable future.
“For the success of India's Energy Transition, it is crucial for every sector and individual to contribute. Achieving energy efficiency across all areas requires significant behavioral changes,” she stated.
During the event, President Murmu awarded the National Energy Conservation Awards 2025 to various institutions and recognized winners of the National Painting Competition on Energy Conservation for school children.
She highlighted that the government had implemented numerous vital measures regarding energy conservation and the transition to clean energy.
“I have been informed that through the energy efficiency initiatives by the government in 2023-24, we have saved 53.60 million tonnes of oil equivalent energy, leading to economic savings and a decrease in carbon dioxide emissions,” she remarked.
“India has exceeded its clean energy commitments ahead of schedule, marking a significant step towards energy efficiency and decarbonization,” she added.
She emphasized that access to clean and affordable energy empowers communities.
“This not only fosters local economies but also creates opportunities for advancement. Green energy extends beyond just power generation; it serves as a potent tool for empowerment and overall development,” she explained.
Referring to the National Green Hydrogen Mission, President Murmu indicated that the government has prioritized Green Hydrogen Technology as a fundamental aspect of the energy transition.
As part of this mission, Green Hydrogen is being produced using renewable energy technologies, positioning India as a potential global hub and reducing reliance on fossil fuels, she noted.
On the international stage, India has already fulfilled its nationally determined clean energy commitments ahead of schedule, reinforcing its role in global climate action.
