Jammu, March 5 (NationPress) The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) successfully wrapped up a skill enhancement initiative for local Pujaris on Thursday at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul located in Katra, within the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.
This nine-day complimentary training program focused on Vedic rituals, culminating with the reverberation of Vedic mantras.
Initiated on February 25, 2026, under the leadership of the Chairman of SMVDSB, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, the program aimed to improve the skills of Pujaris in performing religious rituals and ceremonies, while also preserving traditional practices (Karam Kand) and cultural values.
A total of 13 Pujaris and Archaks participated, hailing from diverse regions including Sarsu (Udhampur), Painthal (Katra), Suketar, Hansali (Katra), Dhansal (Katra), Channi (Mansar), Talwara (Reasi), and Purana Darood.
The program was designed to enhance the participants' grasp of various Vedic rituals, mantras, and essential traditional practices for the execution of religious ceremonies.
Moreover, it sought to instill a systematic and professional approach to Pujan Vidhi.
The curriculum encompassed various topics, including an introduction to Panchang, understanding Muhurat (auspicious timings), and the accurate pronunciation of mantras and shlokas, among other facets of Vedic ritual practices.
Sessions were led by experienced faculty members and Vedic studies scholars from the Shrine Board’s Pujari Wing and the SMVD Gurukul.
Participants expressed that the program was both informative and enriching, providing deeper insights into Vedic scriptures along with practical knowledge for their daily religious responsibilities.
Interactive Q&A sessions promoted active engagement and underscored the importance of conducting such training programs regularly to further enhance the expertise of Pujaris.
The SMVD Gurukul Administrator, present at the closing ceremony, remarked that this training initiative was intended to boost temple-related activities and fortify the traditional knowledge and skills of local Pujaris.
He congratulated the participants on their successful completion of the program and acknowledged the resource persons for their efforts in delivering the training.
Certificates were awarded to all participants during the concluding ceremony.
