Ludhiana, May 11 (NationPress) On Sunday, Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar visited DMC Hospital to meet with victims from Ferozepur who suffered injuries due to Pakistani shelling and drone attacks in a nearby village.
Jakhar stressed the necessity for a unified response, stating, "Considering Punjab's strategic positioning and its economic challenges, particularly the disruptions in trade, border restrictions, and increased security issues, we must now seek a systematic and ongoing form of support from the Central government."
During an all-party meeting, which included figures such as Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Jakhar highlighted the urgency for a dedicated economic package tailored for Punjab, taking into account the ongoing losses faced by the state due to its border status.
The state BJP president specifically advocated for Punjab to receive a special status similar to that of states like Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, which would grant long-term economic and developmental advantages.
He noted that Punjab's industries, agriculture, and border communities have faced unique challenges due to its proximity to Pakistan. Limited trade routes, structural investment hesitations, and farmers bearing the brunt of uncertainties have all contributed to these hardships.
"Our youth deserve opportunities that match their potential, which necessitates customized support and affirmative policy measures," he asserted.
Jakhar mentioned that in the near future, the Punjab BJP will actively liaise with Central leadership to advocate for Punjab's rightful demand for special status and assistance to ensure that the needs of our farmers, businesses, youth, and the Punjabi community are prioritized.
Reflecting on the escalating tension between India and Pakistan, he commended the armed forces for effectively countering air strikes and safeguarding vital air bases and strategic locations. He also recognized the resilience of the people of Punjab during these challenging times.
