Chandigarh, March 23 (NationPress) In a meticulously planned operation, the Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence unit of Amritsar successfully dismantled a narco-terror network, apprehending four individuals and seizing four kg of heroin from their possession, as stated by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Sunday.

An FIR was filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) in Amritsar.

Ongoing inquiries aim to uncover their forward and backward connections, he added.

The suspects were detained near the Government Hospital in Naraingarh, located in Chheharta, Amritsar. They have been identified as Navjot Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, Gurpreet Singh, and Aniket.

The ongoing campaign against drugs, termed “Yudh Nashian Virudh”, which aims to eliminate the drug issue in the state, has now reached its 23rd day.

As of Saturday, the Punjab Police has arrested 75 drug traffickers and recovered 5.2 kg of heroin, 10 kg of opium, and Rs 2.2 lakh in drug proceeds. This brings the total number of drug traffickers apprehended to 2,613.

This operation is being conducted across all 28 police districts in the state.

The government has also set up a five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee, led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, to oversee the anti-drug initiative.

Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla reported that over 250 police teams, consisting of more than 1,700 officers, under the guidance of 98 gazetted officers, executed raids at 536 locations throughout the state on Saturday, leading to the filing of 51 FIRs.

Police teams also scrutinized 601 suspicious individuals during the extensive operation, he noted.

The Special DGP emphasized that the state government has implemented a three-tier strategy—Enforcement, Deaddiction, and Prevention (EDP)—to combat drug-related issues in the state.
