Chandigarh, March 23 (NationPress) In the relentless battle against drug trafficking, the Punjab Police's Counter Intelligence (CI) unit in Amritsar has dismantled a narco-terror operation within the state. This operation led to the apprehension of four suspects and the seizure of four kg of heroin, as announced by the Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, on Sunday.

The individuals taken into custody include Sukhwinder Singh and his son Navjot Singh, both from Amritsar, along with Aniket and Gurpreet Singh.

Authorities have also confiscated their black three-wheeler auto and a motorcycle, both employed in the transport of narcotics.

DGP Yadav revealed that the Counter Intelligence unit received intelligence indicating that certain individuals were in direct communication with drug traffickers based in Pakistan, engaging in the smuggling of narcotics and recently retrieving a drug shipment from the Attari region to supply to local dealers.

In response, police conducted a raid near the Government Hospital in Naraingarh, Amritsar, resulting in the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of 4 kg of heroin, he explained.

The DGP further disclosed that initial investigations suggest the gang is overseen by an individual residing abroad, identified as Bhullar.

Additionally, it was discovered that Sukhwinder and Navjot Singh received the 4 kg heroin shipment from a contact in Rajatal village, Amritsar, and distributed 2 kg to Aniket and Gurpreet Singh for further distribution.

Notably, another son of the arrested Sukhwinder Singh, Harmanjit Singh, along with Aniket's brother, Sagar, were arrested in a prior drug-related case by the ANTF of Mohali in January and are currently detained in Amritsar Jail.

DGP Yadav stated that their ties to this smuggling ring are also under investigation.

The investigation continues to delve deeper into the network's connections, with efforts to establish both backward and forward linkages, he mentioned, indicating that further recoveries and arrests are anticipated in the near future.
