Chandigarh, April 2 (NationPress) The Punjab Police on Wednesday denied assertions that the security for Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia had been entirely revoked, emphasizing that his security detail was merely reduced in light of a revised assessment of threat levels.
An official spokesperson mentioned that this modification was implemented following the recent guidance from the Security Review Committee.
"Security for any notable figure is routinely evaluated according to threat assessments. Consequently, it can be either enhanced or diminished," the spokesperson explained, further noting that Bikram Majithia continues to have ample security measures in place, including an escort vehicle and a suitable number of armed personnel, ensuring his protection in alignment with established protocols.
At the same time, officials reiterated that such determinations are standard and rely exclusively on evaluations of threat perceptions.
The reduction in his security occurred after Majithia, who is under scrutiny for drug trafficking allegations, issued threats to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann regarding retaliatory measures when the Akali Dal regains power.
Majithia expressed that he was unfazed by the security reduction and would persist in addressing public concerns, stating, "You can only silence me by killing me," he posted on X.
Additionally, his party, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), which had criticized Majithia for his prior remarks concerning the ousting of Akal Takht Jatehdar Giani Raghbir Singh, continues to support him.
Former SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal remarked that the government's actions unequivocally reveal "the perilous and lethal intentions" of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration against the leadership of the Akali Dal.
"This decision must be viewed in conjunction with the extensive witch-hunt initiated by the AAP government against Majithia. They are attempting to falsely accuse him of drug-related offenses even after their leader Arvind Kejriwal publicly apologized to the Akali leader for his prior unfounded claims regarding the drug issue," he stated.
