Akali Leader Raises Concerns Over Cop's Connection with Militant Involved in Attack on Sukhbir Badal

Chandigarh, Dec 5 (NationPress) Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia on Thursday called upon the Punjab Police to clarify why Superintendent of Police (SP) Harpal Singh Randhawa was seen shaking hands with Narayan Singh Chaura, an operative of Babbar Khalsa International, just one day before he allegedly attempted to murder former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal.
Majithia presented video evidence from the Sri Darbar Sahib complex, revealing that SP Randhawa was on friendly terms with Chaura, despite being aware of his status as a hardcore militant with over 30 criminal cases against him.
He stated, "The SP and Chaura share the same Assembly constituency of Dera Baba Nanak."
Majithia further indicated that police seemed to be monitoring Chaura's movements yet failed to act to detain him, raising serious questions about the police's integrity.
He noted that even the day before the attack, Randhawa was seen entering the Information Office at Sri Darbar Sahib just three minutes prior to the assassination attempt on Sukhbir Badal, despite the police being purportedly on high alert.
Additionally, Majithia accused Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar of allegedly yielding to pressure from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), claiming he summoned a media person to his residence to create the impression that the attack on Sukhbir Badal was orchestrated to garner sympathy for him.
Majithia asserted that this narrative was false and aimed at distracting from the Amritsar police's complete failure to ensure Badal's safety, urging the Police Commissioner to explain why none of the 175 officers stationed at Sri Darbar Sahib attempted to even search Chaura, let alone arrest him.
He revealed that the attack was thwarted by a Punjab Police officer assigned to the Badal family, who was off duty on that fateful Wednesday.
"Jasbir Singh, who is assigned to Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal, had been sent to Amritsar on December 3 to assist with his visit to Sri Darbar Sahib, as he is a Gursikh who regularly performs 'sewa' at the shrine," he explained.
Moreover, Majithia claimed that the Amritsar Police were intimidating the Shiromani committee staff to prevent the release of CCTV footage from the day of the failed assassination, as it would reveal their inability to prevent the attack.
