New Delhi, Feb 14 (NationPress) The Committee of Privileges of the Delhi Legislative Assembly has instructed the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) of the Punjab Government to submit a written response by February 20 concerning the alleged remarks connected to the city's Leader of Opposition, Atishi, as stated by an official on Saturday.

Additionally, both the Director General of Police, Punjab, and the Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar, have been requested to provide their responses by the same deadline, which is viewed as the final chance to submit the necessary comments and materials requested by the Committee, according to a statement from a Delhi Assembly official.

The Committee is seeking specific documents from the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) of Punjab, including copies of the complaint and enclosures that led to the FIR, the FIR itself, and reports from the Social Media Expert (Technical Cell) of the Punjab Police, as well as the Forensic Science Laboratory, Punjab.

The FIR was filed by the Jalandhar Police over a complaint regarding the sharing of a “doctored” video clip related to Atishi’s statements in the Delhi Assembly, deemed as objectionable and disrespectful towards Sikh Gurus.

The statement communicated to Punjab government and police officials indicated that their responses and documents must be submitted within the specified timeframe for consideration by the Committee, in accordance with the Rules of Procedure, failing which it may be considered a breach of privilege and contempt.

Previously, while requesting an extension to respond, the office of the Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Home Affairs, Punjab, on February 12, noted that no direct communication regarding the matter had been received prior to the Delhi Assembly Secretariat’s notification on February 5.

The letter from the Punjab government mentioned that comments from the Director General of Police, Punjab, the Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar, and the Director of the Forensic Science Laboratory, Punjab, had been forwarded to the relevant offices in Delhi.

Furthermore, it was highlighted that a detailed, formal consolidated response is being finalized and has been submitted for approval by the competent authority.

This matter pertains to complaints regarding breaches of privilege and contempt arising from statements made in the Assembly and actions initiated by the Punjab Police.

The Committee of Privileges is currently reviewing the matter, including the conduct of the authorities and the management of communications and information requested by the Delhi Legislative Assembly Secretariat.
