Is BJP Criticizing Punjab Police's Delay in Responding to Delhi Assembly?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, Jan 13 (NationPress) The BJP’s Punjab President Sunil Jakhar publicly criticized the state police on Tuesday, highlighting their request for more time to respond to the Delhi Legislative Assembly. This came after the police had previously conducted a forensic analysis of a video involving former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi in just one day.
Jakhar questioned why, if the investigation could be completed so quickly, the police now require additional time to reply to the Assembly's notice.
In a social media post, Jakhar stated: “The Punjab Police, which finished the forensic examination of Atishi’s video in merely one day, is now asking for ten days to respond to the Assembly Speaker’s request for a reply within 48 hours.”
He further noted that the BJP has been calling for an investigation into a controversial video resembling the Chief Minister’s face, yet the police remain silent on this matter. “Is there something suspicious happening?” he asked.
The Chief Minister has repeatedly remarked that if the Punjab Police can analyze a video related to Atishi in one day, then why is there no forensic investigation into the problematic video resembling the Chief Minister, and why is there no inquiry into an audio clip allegedly involving the Patiala Police, which seems to threaten democratic processes?
In this regard, the Chief Minister has also sent a letter to the Punjab DGP, requesting a forensic examination of the video that resembles the Chief Minister’s face.
Previously, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann rebutted the BJP's accusations of “tampering” with Atishi’s Assembly video, calling it a calculated conspiracy aimed at inciting communal disharmony in Punjab.
Mann asserted that the secular state government would not permit such schemes to flourish, stating that the video was altered with false subtitles—a form of “beadbi” (sacrilege)—and emphasized that forensic results confirmed Atishi never uttered the word “Guru.”
Defending the Punjab Police's actions against BJP leader Kapil Mishra, Mann pointed out that the manipulated clip does not exist in any official Assembly records and criticized the BJP for pursuing an anti-Punjab agenda on various matters, including Chandigarh, BBMB, and Panjab University, while opposition leaders scramble to defend falsehoods lacking substantial issues against the state government.
The Chief Minister remarked on the hostile attitude of the BJP towards Punjab.
“Former CM Capt Amarinder Singh, state BJP President Sunil Jakhar, and Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu find themselves in a precarious position today as they attempt to justify the BJP’s antagonism towards Punjab with a series of lies,” he added.
