Chandigarh, April 18 (NationPress) The Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs in Punjab, Lal Chand Kataruchak, conducted a review on the current wheat procurement processes at the Rupnagar grain market on Friday.
This season, Punjab is witnessing a remarkable wheat harvest, with approximately 125 lakh metric tonnes expected to be delivered.
To date, 13.16 lakh metric tons of wheat have been recorded in the markets, with around 11 lakh metric tons already acquired, leading to a total of Rs 703 crore disbursed into farmers' accounts.
Minister Kataruchak indicated that following the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, payments are being processed within 24 hours of purchases, ensuring prompt lifting as well. He noted that during his market inspections, no significant issues have arisen.
He remarked, “If the weather remains favorable, the quality of this season’s wheat will be excellent.”
All agencies have been instructed to organize complete provisions of tarpaulins and crates to shield the grain from adverse weather conditions. He assured that there is no shortage of gunny bags available. Farmers will not encounter any difficulties in the markets, and under the Chief Minister's orders, he is actively visiting and overseeing the procurement processes.
Kataruchak emphasized that strict directives have been issued to all officials involved in procurement to prevent any laxity and ensure that no farmer faces challenges. The government has established procurement arrangements for 130 lakh metric tons of wheat and is dedicated to buying every grain produced by farmers.
