Bhubaneswar, Sep 16 (NationPress) Puri District Collector Dibya Jyoti Parida stated on Tuesday that justice will prevail in the gang-rape case.
In response to the distressing gang-rape incident near the Baliharchandi shrine in Puri, he emphasized that the police are actively engaged in the investigation, and necessary measures are being implemented to ensure justice.
During a media briefing, Parida remarked, "The police are diligently probing the incident. The survivor is receiving appropriate medical care, and her health is under close observation."
He further confirmed that the district administration is entirely devoted to assisting the victim and is collaborating with law enforcement for a prompt and comprehensive investigation.
So far, two individuals have been apprehended, while another has been detained in connection with this case.
According to reports, a 19-year-old student and her boyfriend visited the Baliharachandi Temple in Brahmagiri to offer prayers on Saturday afternoon.
Later, the couple moved to a secluded area to spend time together. While they were conversing, the assailants, who had been following them, arrived at the scene.
They reportedly took intimate photos and videos of the couple, subsequently blackmailing them.
The accused initially forcefully seized Rs 2,000 from the couple and then sexually assaulted the college student after binding her boyfriend to a tree in the forest on Saturday afternoon.
The assailants also reportedly assaulted both the victim and her boyfriend following the incident.
Initially hesitant to report the crime, the young woman eventually found the courage to approach the police on Monday evening.
Upon receiving her complaint, police registered a case and quickly arrested one individual, Shiba Sahoo from Chandiput village, while detaining another suspect, Sahoo's brother.
Law enforcement has also apprehended the primary suspect, Manoj Behera, as he attempted to flee to Andhra Pradesh late Monday night.
