PM Modi reaffirmed India's steadfast commitment to a peaceful resolution of the ongoing conflict, along with New Delhi's backing for all associated efforts.
"I thank my friend, President Putin, for his call and for sharing his reflections on his recent meeting with President Trump in Alaska. India has consistently advocated for a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict and supports all endeavors in this direction. I look forward to our continued dialogue in the future," PM Modi expressed on X following the conversation.
The two leaders also discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation aimed at enhancing the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia, agreeing to maintain close communication.
India welcomed the recent Summit meeting in Alaska between the US President and his Russian counterpart, highlighting the importance of their leadership in promoting peace.
"India appreciates the recent Summit meeting in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin of Russia. Their leadership towards peace is commendable. India values the progress achieved during the Summit. The path forward must involve dialogue and diplomacy. Putin and Trump engaged in discussions at the Arctic Warrior Convention Centre during the early hours of Saturday, India time. Key figures such as Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and US President’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff were also present.
Both leaders reported progress over three hours of discussions, inching closer to resolving the Ukraine War, although no immediate ceasefire was announced.
"It’s not finalized yet at all,” Trump remarked to a Fox News interviewer after Friday's summit in Alaska. "And Ukraine must agree. President [Volodymyr] Zelensky needs to agree."
