Washington/London, Sep 18 (NationPress) During his visit to the UK, US President Donald Trump discussed the strong relationship between the United States and India, highlighting his recent phone conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Trump emphasized, "I'm very close to India and have a very good relationship with the Prime Minister of India."
At a press conference alongside British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump recalled his interactions with Modi. He stated, "The other day, I wished him a happy birthday. He issued a beautiful statement too," referring to Modi's response.
On the occasion of Modi's 75th birthday, Trump had reached out to convey his wishes. Modi reciprocated by expressing gratitude on social media, calling Trump his "friend" and appreciating the warm wishes.
In his message, Modi remarked, "Thank you, my friend, President Trump, for your phone call and warm greetings. Like you, I am dedicated to elevating the India-US Comprehensive and Global Partnership. We back your efforts towards a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict."
Trump also took to Truth Social, describing the phone call as "wonderful" and commending Modi for his support regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
"Just had a wonderful phone call with my friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I wished him a very Happy Birthday! He is doing a tremendous job. Narendra: Thank you for your support on ending the War between Russia and Ukraine!" Trump noted.
This call coincided with a meeting in Delhi where US Assistant Trade Representative for South and Central Asia Brendan Lynch engaged in trade discussions with India’s chief trade negotiator, Rajesh Agrawal, which both parties deemed as “positive.”
During the press conference, Trump expressed a willingness to take further actions against Russia, contingent upon support from other European nations. He remarked, "I’m open to doing more, but not while the countries I’m supporting are purchasing oil from Russia; if prices fall, Russia will settle," he explained.
