New Delhi, Jan 23 (NationPress) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's significant rally at Mustafabad in the national capital on Thursday was called off due to his health concerns and upon medical advice, as stated by the party's Delhi Chief Devender Yadav.
Yadav mentioned, "Currently, Rahul Gandhi's election rally in Madipur on Friday remains scheduled, and he is expected to address a large crowd," following the absence of the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha at an election rally near the Inderlok metro station in Sadar Assembly on Wednesday.
He dismissed the rumors suggesting that the cancellation of Gandhi's rallies was intended to assist the AAP by preventing a division of Muslim voters, stating, "These are mere speculations. We are contesting the elections independently."
After Republic Day, the party leaders plan to intensify their campaign in Delhi, indicating a packed schedule for Gandhi and party MP Priyanka Gandhi in the upcoming days to boost their Assembly election efforts.
Yadav accused the AAP and BJP of colluding, explaining that when the Congress does not hold a rally, the "elder brother" claims they are supporting the "younger brother," while the "younger brother" alleges a lack of support in their battle against the "big brother."
The Congress campaign for the February 5 Assembly election was anticipated to gain significant momentum from Gandhi's three rallies over three consecutive days starting January 22, but unfortunately, two have been canceled.
Gandhi is anticipated to rejoin the campaign on Friday with an election rally in West Delhi's Madipur.
Previously, during a press conference at the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee office, former Delhi Minister Narendra Nath announced Gandhi's rally schedule, expecting him to address key issues impacting the people of Delhi.
He added that aside from highlighting the failures of the AAP government and the BJP in tackling the problems plaguing the Capital, Rahul Gandhi might also advocate for Dalits to receive their due rights.
In the last two Assembly elections for the 70-member House, the Congress has not secured a single seat, marking a stark contrast to their three consecutive victories from 1998 to 2008. The results for the ongoing Assembly poll will be revealed on February 8.
