Congress to Independently Contest Delhi Elections, Alok Sharma Calls AAP a 'Distraction'

Chandigarh, Dec 11 (NationPress) In a pointed critique of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Congress spokesperson Alok Sharma on Wednesday charged AAP with operating as the 'B team' of the BJP and emphasized that the Congress intends to participate in the forthcoming Delhi Assembly elections independently.

Sharma raised concerns about AAP’s performance in recent elections, stating, 'In Haryana, AAP received fewer votes than NOTA. They should focus on standing alone rather than interfering with Congress' chances. AAP is acting like the BJP's B team. They are a significant distraction. Following such a poor performance, they should reflect on their strategy and objectives,'

Sharma conveyed his optimism regarding Congress' prospects in Delhi. 'We are completely equipped to contest the Delhi Assembly elections on our own. Our Nyay Yatra has recently concluded, and the public's enthusiastic response has been very promising. Delhi has declined under AAP’s administration, and the people are ready for a change. This time, Congress will win and restore Delhi’s former glory,' he added.

Kejriwal also stated earlier on Wednesday that there would be no potential for an alliance with Congress in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, which are expected to occur early next year. 'The Aam Aadmi Party will contest this election based on its own strength in Delhi. There is no chance for an alliance with Congress,' he mentioned in a post on X.

Kejriwal’s AAP has already announced the names of 31 candidates for the upcoming elections.

Sharma further criticized the BJP-led Central government and the Punjab administration regarding the issues of unemployment and the escalating drug crisis in the state.

'The dual crises of unemployment and drug abuse have taken hold of Punjab. Our demand is clear — jobs, not drugs. Drug trafficking must be curtailed, and the youth require meaningful employment opportunities. The Congress has been actively highlighting these issues throughout India. Yesterday, the Punjab Youth Congress organized a significant protest, and today, we are here to stress these matters.' Sharma told IANS.
