Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, April 12 (NationPress) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is gearing up to kick off his campaign for the party in West Bengal ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, as confirmed by party officials on Sunday.
His campaign will commence from Malda district, a region that once served as a stronghold for Congress.
In light of the evolving political landscape in the state, the Congress party is eager to reclaim its former influence. With this objective, Rahul Gandhi is stepping into the fray with a message of revival.
He is set to return to Malda district after a significant hiatus of seven years, with an election rally scheduled at the Kalambagan ground in Chanchal on April 14.
On Sunday afternoon, key Congress leaders along with police officials conducted an inspection of the Kalambagan ground in Chanchal to assess security measures and necessary preparations for the anticipated public gathering.
Party officials estimate that around one lakh individuals may converge on the venue that day.
Rahul Gandhi shares a longstanding bond with the Gani Khan Choudhury family in Malda, which is why he is placing special emphasis on two constituencies: Chanchal and Sujapur.
Reports indicate that he will rally in support of Mausam Noor, the candidate from the Malatipur constituency, and is also scheduled to hold a public assembly in Sujapur.
During the April 14 gathering, Rahul Gandhi will advocate for four Congress candidates: Mausam Noor of Malatipur, Asif Mehboob of Chanchal, Mostaq Alam of Harishchandrapur, and Mottakin Alam of Ratua. This gathering presents an opportunity to showcase the strength of Congress across four crucial centers in the district.
Preparations for the event are in full swing, with the ground clearing almost complete. A temporary helipad is also being constructed for Rahul Gandhi's arrival by helicopter, after which he will proceed to the rally venue via car.
Indra Narayan Majumdar, the General Secretary of Congress in Malda District, remarked, "Rahul Gandhi is very familiar with the land of Chanchal. That’s why he has chosen this place once again. We anticipate a crowd exceeding one lakh, as there is significant local interest in hearing him speak."
