Kolkata, April 14 (NationPress) In the midst of the significant two-phase Assembly elections in West Bengal, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to engage in five political events in the state today.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi, leader of the Congress party, will kick off his campaign in West Bengal with three events scheduled throughout the day.

The agenda for the Union Home Minister includes four public meetings and one roadshow. The public meetings will take place at two locations in Malda district, namely Manikchak and Gazole, as well as one in Kaliaganj within Nadia district and another in Gangarampur in South 24 Parganas district.

Additionally, he will partake in a roadshow in the South 24 Parganas area.

On the flip side, Rahul Gandhi’s campaign itinerary comprises three public rallies in Raiganj located in North Dinajpur district, Chanchal in Malda district, and Samsernagar in Murshidabad district.

According to the schedule from the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee, Gandhi will arrive at Purnia Airport in Bihar via a special flight at 11:45 a.m. and will then travel to Raiganj by road for a public address at 12:30 p.m.

His next stop will be Chanchal at 2:55 p.m., followed by a rally at Samsernagar at 3:30 p.m.

In addition, Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister and leader of the Trinamool Congress, will conduct three public meetings at Pingla in West Midnapore district, Tamluk in East Midnapore, and Jagatballavpur in Howrah today.

Abhishek Banerjee, the general secretary of the Trinamool Congress and a member of Lok Sabha, will also take part in a roadshow in Cooch Behar and hold a public meeting at Maynaguri in Jalpaiguri district.

During these meetings, both the Chief Minister and Banerjee are likely to address the recent arrest of Vinesh Chandel, co-founder of the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC), by Enforcement Directorate officials in New Delhi on Monday night.

Following Chandel's arrest, Abhishek Banerjee took to social media to express his discontent regarding the arrest connected to the multi-crore coal smuggling case in West Bengal and Jharkhand, stating that the timing of the arrest, merely ten days before the Bengal elections, is concerning and undermines the principle of a fair electoral competition.

Since 2020, I-PAC has served as the vote strategy agency for the Trinamool Congress.

Point of View

The active engagement of prominent political leaders in West Bengal signifies the importance of this election. Each party is keenly focused on mobilizing support, making it imperative to watch how these events shape the political landscape going forward.
