Raebareli, April 29 (NationPress) - On Tuesday, Raebareli MP and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, made his inaugural visit to his parliamentary constituency following the General Elections. He assessed ongoing development initiatives and connected with local residents and party supporters.
During the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committees (DISHA) meeting, LoP Gandhi engaged with officials from 78 departments who gathered at the collectorate’s Bachat Bhawan to provide updates on previously discussed agendas.
A party member revealed that the focus of Tuesday's meeting was the execution of programs funded by the Centre.
LoP Gandhi inaugurated a solar energy project and an EV charging station, unveiled a statue, and inspired local residents and party members in his constituency.
This marked his second visit to the area this year, following his previous trip in February, during which he unveiled a statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in the Civil Lines area of Bachhrawan, as noted by a party leader.
Additionally, LoP Gandhi distributed 15 hand carts to underprivileged residents.
His itinerary also included a visit to the rail coach factory in Lalganj and a meeting with party workers in the Sareni Assembly segment, according to a Congress volunteer.
It is anticipated that the LoP will spend the night at Bhuemau Guest House on Tuesday and proceed to Amethi on Wednesday to inaugurate a cardiology unit at the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital.
Rahul Gandhi serves as a trustee for the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Trust, which oversees the hospital's operations, with his mother, Sonia Gandhi, at the helm.
The Raebareli MP is also set to visit the Munshgang ordnance factory in Amethi, represented by loyalist Kishori Lal Sharma.
Prior to LoP Gandhi's visit, a poster campaign erupted in Uttar Pradesh's Raebareli, where a BJP Yuva Morcha leader in Harchandpur criticized the Congress leader over his call for a caste census.
The hoarding in Hindi bore a message directed at LoP Gandhi, featuring his image and stating, “You aim to divide through casteism; we will unite through nationalism. Spare our Raebareli from caste-based politics.”
In the 2024 parliamentary election, Rahul Gandhi secured victory in Raebareli, defeating BJP's Dinesh Pratap Singh by a margin of 3.9 lakh votes, achieving a vote share of 66.17%. This constituency, regarded as the Gandhi family’s stronghold, was previously represented by Sonia Gandhi from 2006 to 2019.
