Key Takeaways
Jaipur, Jan 30 (NationPress) The Rajasthan Assembly experienced significant political tension as members from the ruling BJP and the Opposition Congress exchanged pointed accusations during the discussion on the Governor's address.
The topics of corruption, governance shortcomings, and welfare schemes were central to the debate, causing repeated disruptions in the House on Thursday.
BJP MLA Atul Bhansali launched a vigorous attack on Congress, asserting that extensive corruption occurred during its administration.
He alleged that a Rs 25 crore scam took place within the Rajasthan Urban Infrastructure Development Project in Jodhpur, the former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's own Lok Sabha constituency of Sardarpura.
Bhansali claimed that the BJP government has upheld its commitment to zero tolerance towards corruption, citing actions taken regarding a paper leak case and noting that a former Minister from the Congress-led Rajasthan government was imprisoned.
Mahesh Joshi, a former Rajasthan Minister, was sentenced to jail on charges of corruption related to the Jal Jeevan Mission.
"The scams perpetrated during the last Congress administration are now being uncovered. Engaging in corruption within one's own Lok Sabha constituency is a profoundly disgraceful act," Bhansali stated.
In retaliation, Deputy Leader of the Opposition Ramkesh Meena accused the BJP of extensive irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision scheme.
He contended that BJP members submitted numerous forms with forged signatures, indicating that each falsified signature could result in a one-year prison sentence.
"If a single worker submitted 500 fraudulent forms, that equates to 500 years in prison," Meena remarked, cautioning the ruling BJP to brace for a comprehensive investigation.
He assured that the Congress would ensure a thorough inquiry into the matter.
During the debate, Deputy Chief Minister and Public Works Department Minister Diya Kumari addressed queries regarding road construction and maintenance.
Her responses incited protests from Congress MLAs, leading to a chaotic scene in the Assembly.
The state Assembly also saw heated discussions on other issues concerning Rajasthan.
Minister of State for Home Jawahar Singh Bedham accused Congress leaders of misconduct during the previous government's time while addressing queries related to hookah bars in the state.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA Harimohan Sharma confronted State Urban Development and Housing Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra regarding delays in municipal and panchayat elections and the removal of local body chairpersons.
Kharra defended the current BJP-led state government, stating that elections could not take place without resolving OBC reservation issues.
Sharma further claimed that nearly 9.3 million beneficiaries across Rajasthan had not received pensions for the past four months, alleging failures in social security schemes.
He highlighted that individuals in rural areas were enduring severe hardships, leading to additional uproar in the House.
Earlier on Thursday, BJP MLA Pushpendra Singh Bali accused Congress of disseminating misinformation about MGNREGA.
He asserted that the Centre had bolstered the scheme and enhanced employment opportunities, announcing that up to 125 days of work would now be available.
The debate was characterized by frequent interruptions, loud exchanges, and intense political rhetoric from both sides, demonstrating deep divisions over governance and accountability in the state.
