Rajasthan Chief Minister Initiates Special Drive to Mitigate Road Accidents

Jaipur, Dec 21 (NationPress) Rajasthan's Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma declared on Friday the commencement of a significant campaign targeting accident black spots on roads, aiming to diminish accidents throughout the state.

He stressed the immediate need for identifying and rectifying areas prone to accidents to reduce the loss of life and property resulting from vehicle crashes.

The Chief Minister directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to focus on maintaining high-quality standards in all repair activities during this campaign and to ensure that they are completed promptly. He pointed out that the state is investing around Rs 2,350 crore to rectify black spots and bolster road safety.

He cautioned that strict measures would be enforced against anyone failing to meet the required standards in road construction and maintenance.

According to recent reports, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has pinpointed 40 black spots within the state, with enhancements being executed at a total cost of Rs 812.64 crore. Of these, 13 spots have already undergone repairs, and work continues on the others.

NHAI is preparing to initiate repairs on an additional 37 black spots, with an estimated funding of Rs 821.51 crore.

In conjunction with the PWD, efforts are underway to tackle 176 black spots along national highways at a budget of approximately Rs 650 crore.

The PWD aims to finalize repairs on 117 identified black spots by March 31, 2025. The Rajasthan State Highway Authority is enhancing 30 black spots with a budget of Rs 21.72 crore, aiming for completion by January 2025. Furthermore, safety upgrades are being implemented on four major roads at a cost of Rs 20.34 crore.

This initiative highlights the state government's dedication to improving road safety and reducing accidents through thorough and coordinated measures, as stated by officials.
