Rajasthan Launches Semiconductor Policy-2026 to Enhance Investment and Job Creation
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, March 24 (NationPress) Taking significant strides toward technological advancement and economic enhancement, the Rajasthan government introduced the "Rajasthan Semiconductor Policy-2026" on Tuesday, according to government officials.
Recognizing the semiconductor sector as the foundation of contemporary technology and a crucial catalyst for the global economy, this policy is designed to greatly enhance investments, create jobs, and foster skill development and technological innovation throughout the state, officials indicated.
As the demand for semiconductors rises in various sectors, including electronics, telecommunications, automotive, defense, and the digital economy, this policy aims to establish Rajasthan as a prominent center for semiconductor production.
The initiative is expected to draw investments in vital areas such as Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT), Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP), and sensor manufacturing, according to officials.
Moreover, it will support local production while generating high-quality employment prospects in advanced technology fields.
The policy embraces a thorough approach, encompassing the entire semiconductor value chain—from research and design to manufacturing, testing, and packaging.
To realize this vision, significant industrial zones such as the Jodhpur-Pali-Marwar Industrial Area, Kakani Industrial Area, and other clusters will be transformed into dedicated semiconductor corridors.
These regions will feature world-class infrastructure, including dependable power supply, water resources, road connectivity, efficient land allocation, and a streamlined single-window clearance system.
The policy also focuses on developing semiconductor parks while enhancing the 'fabless' design ecosystem, officials added.
To incentivize investment, the policy introduces a variety of benefits under the Semiconductor Manufacturing Package.
These incentives include a complete exemption from electricity duty for seven years, a 75% reduction in stamp duty and land conversion fees, and a 25% reimbursement of such expenses.
In addition, industries will gain from a grant corresponding to 60% of the capital subsidy sanctioned under the India Semiconductor Mission, along with a 5% interest subsidy on term loans to stimulate capital investment.
The policy also weaves environmental sustainability into industrial development, officials noted.
Qualifying industries will receive a 50% reimbursement of costs incurred for environmental protection measures, a full exemption from electricity duties for seven years for projects utilizing captive renewable energy, and a 50% discount on consent fees under the Rajasthan Green Rating System.
National initiatives like 'Make in India', 'Electronic Systems Design and Manufacturing' (ESDM), the 'Semicon India Program', and the 'India Semiconductor Mission' have already established a robust foundation for the sector.
With an investment of Rs 40,000 crore allocated under "India Semiconductor Mission 2.0" and continued backing through the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, India is making consistent progress towards becoming a global technological powerhouse.
Through the Rajasthan Semiconductor Policy-2026, the state is set to play a pivotal role in this national vision, as stated by officials from the Chief Minister's Office.
