Is Rajasthan Set to Become a Semiconductor Powerhouse?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, Feb 4 (NationPress) In a significant stride towards advanced industrial development and self-sufficiency, the Rajasthan government has unveiled the Rajasthan Semiconductor Policy, with the goal of establishing the state as a premier center for semiconductor manufacturing and related industries.
As semiconductors are pivotal to contemporary digital and automated innovations, this new policy aims to bolster Rajasthan's position within India's semiconductor landscape, while advancing national objectives of economic resilience and technological autonomy.
The policy designates the Jodhpur-Pali-Marwar and Kankani industrial zones, alongside other viable areas, as Priority Semiconductor Corridors. These zones will benefit from expedited land allocation, coordinated utility services, and unified clearance processes to enhance project implementation and instill investor confidence.
A key focus of the policy is to draw investments in sectors such as Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) and Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging (ATMP), in addition to sensors and associated electronics production. It also aims to bolster the fabless semiconductor design ecosystem within the state.
To realize this vision, the government intends to establish state-of-the-art semiconductor parks and offer enticing incentives to projects sanctioned under the India Semiconductor Mission. The facilitation of business operations is a core principle of this policy.
The state administration will ensure critical infrastructure, including uninterrupted water and power supply, along with streamlined regulatory frameworks. Investors looking to establish semiconductor facilities in Rajasthan must apply via the RajNivesh portal.
For efficient execution, two specialized committees - the State Level Sanctioning Committee (SLSC) and the State Empowered Committee - will be created.
The Department of Industries and Commerce will serve as the principal agency for policy implementation and coordination. The Rajasthan Semiconductor Policy is in alignment with the central government's broader semiconductor strategy.
The India Semiconductor Mission, initiated in 2021, received a notable enhancement in the recent Union Budget, with a funding allocation of Rs 40,000 crore for Mission 2.0.
Central initiatives like Make in India, Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes, the Semicon India Programme, and Electronic Systems Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) have laid a robust groundwork for domestic semiconductor advancement.
Through this policy, Rajasthan aims to attract high-caliber investments, create skilled job opportunities, and establish itself as a vital contributor to India's swiftly evolving semiconductor sector.
