Rajya Sabha to Engage in Constitutional Discourse Starting Today

New Delhi, Dec 16 (NationPress) Following a heated debate concerning the Constitution in the Lok Sabha, the Rajya Sabha is poised to deliberate on the matter on Monday and Tuesday.
According to the agenda of the Upper House, there will be a discussion on the remarkable journey of 75 years of the Constitution of India.
Prior to the discussion commencing, an obituary reference will be made for the late ex-Member Shreegopal Vyas, eight ministers will present documents on the table, and various Standing Committees will also deliver their reports.
The debate in the Rajya Sabha unfolds amidst rising tensions over a no-confidence motion initiated by the Congress-led opposition against Vice President and House Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar.
Last week, the Upper House experienced chaos and adjournments due to the no-trust motion against Dhankhar, with the opposition accusing him of biased behavior.
The Rajya Sabha's discourse on the Constitution follows a two-day discussion held in the Lok Sabha. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commenced the two-day debate, emphasizing its historical importance and its role in molding the nation’s governance and its international stature.
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, during her inaugural speech in Parliament, asserted that the BJP would have altered the Constitution were it not for the impending 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi made references to Veer Savarkar, which were contested by the BJP members.
A significant moment from the two-day discussion in the Lower House was Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address. He stated that the constitutional amendments enacted by his government were not aimed at consolidating power, contrasting this with the Congress. He argued that the Nehru-Gandhi family had a history of amending the Constitution to align with their interests, starting with the nation’s first PM Jawaharlal Nehru.
PM Modi also proposed 11 resolutions for the country's future, saying, "Inspired by the intrinsic spirit of the Constitution, I wish to present 11 resolutions before Parliament for the nation's future."
