Ram Temple Trust meets in Ayodhya to deliberate SIT report and resignations
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust convened a crucial meeting on Monday, 6 July at Mani Ramdas Chavni (Chhoti Chhavni) in Ayodhya to examine the preliminary report of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing alleged donation-related irregularities, and to address the resignations of senior Trust functionaries that followed the controversy. Saints across the city voiced a range of reactions ahead of the deliberations, from calls for greater transparency to firm expressions of faith in the Trust's judgement.
What the Trust is Deliberating
The SIT was constituted specifically to investigate allegations of financial irregularities linked to donations received by the Trust. The probe triggered the resignations of senior functionaries, making Monday's meeting one of the most consequential since the Trust's formation. The session was scheduled to begin at 3 pm IST.
Trust Treasurer Govind Dev Giri told reporters outside the venue that a formal press conference would follow the deliberations. 'I will speak to you after the meeting. I will be here for the next three days, and I will meet all of you and discuss everything in detail,' he said, adding that 'all your questions will be answered.'
Saints Call for Inclusion and Transparency
Arya Sant Varun Das Maharaj noted that the meeting was drawing nationwide attention and urged the Trust to bring Ayodhya's saints into the conversation. 'The entire world and the people of the country are watching the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust meeting... But it is being heard that many members are not attending the meeting. They should also inform the saints of Ayodhya and sit with them,' he said.
Mahant Sitaram Das of Saket Bhavan struck a firmer tone, stressing that transparency was non-negotiable. 'This is certainly a matter of faith for the entire country and for devotees worldwide. There should be transparency, and our faith should not be tarnished in any way. If anyone tries to malign it or assert control over it, the Sant Samaj will not tolerate it at all,' he said.
Confidence in the Trust's Judgement
Jagadguru Paramhans Acharya Ji, Peethadheeshwar of Tapasvi Chhawani, expressed full confidence in the proceedings. 'It is a Trust meeting, and I have complete faith that whatever decision is taken will be appropriate and in accordance with justice,' he said.
This comes amid a broader period of scrutiny for the Trust, which has faced public questions over financial governance since the donation-irregularity allegations surfaced. The outcome of Monday's meeting is expected to determine the Trust's next steps on both the SIT findings and the leadership vacancies created by the resignations.
What Happens Next
A post-meeting press briefing by Govind Dev Giri is expected to offer the first official account of the Trust's decisions. Whether the SIT report will be made public — or its findings acted upon through structural changes — remains to be seen. The Sant Samaj's pointed demand for transparency signals that the Trust's response will be closely scrutinised by religious communities well beyond Ayodhya.
