Mangaluru, Jan 23 (NationPress) Activists from Rama Sene launched an attack on a massage centre in Mangaluru city of Karnataka on Thursday, alleging that the establishment was involved in illegal activities.
The police reported that a group of Hindu activists, led by local leader Prasad Attavara, forcibly entered the massage parlour situated in the Bijai region and vandalized its interiors, causing damage to furniture and glass.
Witnesses stated that approximately 12 individuals were involved in the destruction of the massage parlour.
In response to the incident, G. Parameshwara, the state Home Minister, ordered the police to apprehend those responsible without delay.
"The reasons behind the attack remain unclear. I've instructed the authorities to take legal action. Such incidents must not occur, and businesses should operate without interference. No one is permitted to take the law into their own hands," Parameshwara emphasized.
He further elaborated that if any establishments are participating in illegal activities, complaints should be made to the authorities, and the police will act accordingly.
"Civil authorities impose regulations on businesses. If they are violated, action will be taken against the violators," Parameshwara mentioned.
Dinesh Gundu Rao, the Minister for Health and in charge of Mangaluru district, condemned the incident.
He remarked, "Acts of hooliganism are being conducted under the name of Sri Ram Sene. Such actions tarnish the name of Lord Rama. No one has the right to take the law into their own hands. Violence and disturbances associated with Sri Ram Sene are intolerable."
"If any illegal activities are observed, they should be reported to the police. Resorting to destructive behavior and acting like hooligans is unacceptable. We must all respect the law and maintain peace," Minister Rao stated.
"The police have been directed to take strict action against individuals engaging in such behavior. To act in the name of God in this manner disrespects Lord Rama. Hindu organizations should also denounce such actions," Rao emphasized.
"If anyone participates in moral policing and takes the law into their own hands, we will respond with firm action. Continued behavior like this will impede the development of areas such as Mangaluru in the future," he warned.
He also noted that since the Congress government assumed power, it has been dedicated to maintaining law and order, yet some organizations are attempting to disrupt peace and create chaos, threatening the state's stability.
Meanwhile, Sri Ram Sene has distanced itself from the aggressors, clarifying that they are not associated with the attack.
Prasad Attavar, the founder of Ram Sene, informed the media that the attack was executed by their activists.
"Drugs were allegedly administered to young women aged between 18 and 19 years, leading them to prostitution. One of the girls, a relative of our member, has been caught up in this situation. We acted on a tip-off regarding illegal activities at this centre. Out of the 25 massage parlours in Mangaluru city, this particular one was targeted based on our information. Our intention was to protect the girls," he alleged.
However, the massage parlour's owner, Sudheer, countered that the attackers brought items with them to the parlour.
"We have operated this parlour for two years with all necessary documentation and licenses," he stated.
