Reality Check in Karol Bagh: Residents Voice Concerns Over Poor Roads, Trash, and Ineffective Drainage

New Delhi, Jan 1 (NationPress) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal, has been at the helm of governance in the national capital for the last decade, often highlighting its developmental achievements and presenting the 'Delhi model' of growth as one of the finest in the nation. However, a significant number of residents in the Karol Bagh constituency are feeling let down and unimpressed by these assertions.
Instead, many locals are raising concerns about inadequate civic facilities, which include damaged roads, faulty sewers, poor sanitation, and heaps of garbage, attributing these issues directly to the current AAP administration.
An IANS team recently conducted an inspection of the Karol Bagh area, in light of the upcoming Assembly elections, gathering feedback from the community regarding local development.
Several residents of Karol Bagh shared with IANS that the AAP has made grand promises regarding urban development, including commitments to repair roads, improve the sewage infrastructure, and uphold high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, yet they believe the party has fallen short in all these areas.
Vishesh Ravi serves as the elected AAP representative for the Karol Bagh Assembly constituency, while Mahesh Khinchi is the AAP Councilor for Dev Nagar Ward 84.
During the area inspection, it was noted that the roads were riddled with potholes, while numerous sewers were left uncovered, causing gutter water to overflow onto the streets, and many areas were cluttered with trash.
Residents informed IANS that elected officials are only visible during election campaigns, disappearing from the community afterward.
A local woman voiced her frustration, stating that although the AAP government pledged free electricity, they still receive hefty power bills and the roads remain in disrepair.
She expressed that the Delhi government constantly promotes its achievements, but the reality on the ground reveals minimal progress.
Numerous streets in Karol Bagh have been in dismal condition for years, with sewage water running along the roads, contributing to health issues among residents, yet the city government has opted to remain silent throughout the years.
Another woman pointed out the lack of cleanliness around the local councilor's office, who also serves as the mayor of Delhi.
“The area is inundated with garbage, mud is everywhere, and the drains are neglected,” she lamented.
Many residents recalled that Arvind Kejriwal had assured them that significant improvements would follow if AAP secured victory in the Municipal Corporation elections. Unfortunately, nearly two years post-election, no visible changes have occurred.
