Registration for Mahila Samman Rashi Scheme Set to Commence in a Week: Delhi CM Atishi

New Delhi, Dec 13 (NationPress) On Friday, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi revealed that the process for registering beneficiaries under the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Rashi scheme will commence in just a week. She expressed optimism that impoverished women in the capital would receive one or two monthly payments of Rs 1,000 until March 31.
During a media briefing, CM Atishi confirmed that the Cabinet's decision has been ratified and emphasized that a budgetary allocation of Rs 2,000 crore has been earmarked for this initiative.
She assured that the registration will definitely kick off before the elections; however, the timing of the disbursement prior to the polls will hinge on when the announcement of Assembly elections is made.
Responding to criticisms aimed at undermining this significant initiative by the AAP government, CM Atishi stated, "Our opponents have left no stone unturned to obstruct this welfare scheme of ours."
She noted that the delay in the scheme's announcement was due to the imprisonment of AAP Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, which postponed its launch until December.
"Currently, the commitments made by the AAP government, under the leadership of party convenor Kejriwal, have been honored, and we will start the registration process in a week or ten days," she mentioned.
Clarifying the eligibility criteria, she stated that the scheme is exclusively for adult women from underprivileged backgrounds and will not apply to currently serving or former permanent government employees, elected officials such as MPs, MLAs, or Councillors, individuals receiving government pensions, or income tax payers.
"We intentionally chose not to impose a minimum family income requirement for eligibility, as women, even in families with earning males, deserve financial independence," she explained.
The aim of this scheme is to provide financial autonomy to unemployed women or homemakers, enabling them to cover small expenses without relying on family members.
Highlighting the pro-women welfare initiatives of the Delhi government, CM Atishi pointed out that quality schools and hospitals in the region have significantly benefited women.
"Instead of enduring health issues, women are now utilizing Mohalla Clinics for free medical treatment. Girls are enrolled in high-quality educational institutions, and women are availing of free travel on DTC buses to pursue education and employment opportunities," she stated.
Emphasizing the advantages of the free travel scheme for women, CM Atishi noted that women made 40 crore trips on Delhi Transport Corporation buses over the last five years, with approximately 11 lakh women traveling for free each day.
If Arvind Kejriwal had not been incarcerated, women would likely have received several instalments under the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Rashi scheme by this point, she added.
