RG Kar Scandal: West Bengal Government Yet to Approve Charge Sheet Against Sandip Ghosh

Kolkata, Dec 2 (NationPress) The government of West Bengal is still pending a formal approval regarding the charge sheet submitted against Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital, and house-staff member Asish Pandey, in connection with significant financial irregularities at the institution.
According to informed sources, while the CBI filed the charge sheet naming Ghosh, Pandey, and three others at a special court in Kolkata on November 29, it has not yet been officially recognized by the court authorities.
Ghosh and Pandey were serving as state government employees. The court cannot officially acknowledge the charge sheet until the state government provides the necessary clearance.
Sources further indicated that despite multiple communications from the CBI to the state government regarding this issue, no response has been received to date.
In addition to Ghosh and Pandey, the charge sheet also mentions three others: Afsar Ali, Suman Hazra, and Biplab Singha. The latter two are identified as private contractors and suppliers.
Beyond the financial irregularities, the CBI is also investigating Ghosh and the former SHO of Tala Police Station, Abhijit Mondal, regarding the horrific rape and murder of a junior doctor from R.G. Kar that occurred in August, with the trial already underway in a special court in Kolkata.
On Monday, testimonies from two forensic doctors associated with R.G. Kar and a constable from Tala Police Station are set to be recorded in the special court.
The entire trial is being conducted in-camera.
A civic volunteer, Sanjay Roy, who is considered the “sole prime accused” in the rape and murder case, has been appearing virtually since last week.
The trial proceedings are being expedited and are occurring on a daily basis.
